Another Saturday in the Office...
I am staying committed to stopping along the way so I did so again yesterday (been told it takes 4-6 weeks to break a habit). Returning from a very fun meeting with 2011 B&G Taylor and Jeremy I pulled over and waded thru the few remaining tourist. Shooting HDR images (these are not-FYI) forces me to use a tripod and the culture of pocket point n' blur and phone camera folks look at you like you're flying the space shuttle when you pull a real camera out and they scurry away... it's rather fun! So a classic backside view and a not so classic view of the Rock Pile dressed in October white. My favorite color- T&J look forward to looking at the views with you again next May... BL

Final Foliage Update-Less Leaves- More Ledge

Forget the fact that winter is why we live here- the upside to the winds cleaning up the foliage to where only the strong leafs survive till Halloween is the backyard view and that the ledges start to appear at the backdoor... I hesitate to declare the Rock official white for the season but based on this AM's view tough not to think we are there... BL

Thanks to the backroads...

I have the privilege of living in an place where the fire hydrants are ponds along the backroads that keep me sane in a summer full of travel. I stopped yesterday coming from Cornish- rare but necessary on occasion. I knew that monsoon wind and rain that are here today would turn an already fading fall into November, my least favorite time of year with the shorting daylight and snow yet to cover the ground. Note to self- stop more often on the backroads... BL

Henry Gilson-All World Golden 1993-2010

Blogging is a time machine. You get to go back on a rainy day and say things that you couldn't say at the time. I have had the honor of knowing a once in a lifetime retriever-Will Gilson's Golden Dog Henry. Not that all our dogs don't have a special spot that only they occupy but Henry defined what I will forever know as the Heart of a Retriever- what sets the breed apart, what makes people covet them. I had convinced myself that Henry would see his 18th birthday in 2011 because he was as spry and more mobile as dogs half his age at 17 but he covered his illness well even as his body failed. There will be more Goldens in our lives but the benchmark for health, hunt and heart has been set at an unobtainable spot that only Henry will live on at.

August At The Wire...
There will be no quality blogging in summer until there is more than one of me as I have come to grips with the fact that doing what I do summers will just evaporate. The good news is that I have them captured so I know where the moments go. What a treat last week was in Cooperstown, NY and a very special way to end August. I am still smiling. I flipped over the wedding program the morning after as I was packing up my gear and saw I was included in a list of "thank yous" from B&G Ashleigh & Adam on the back cover. I had never seen that done before and sums up the genuine class of these two. Why I show up for the unique epic days-I am sure of it... BL
